The Reading Habits Tag

Carissa from Vanilla Crush did The Reading Habits Tag on her blog and it looked like fun, especially since I've been getting back into reading lately, so I thought I'd do it on mine! I've been waiting a while to publish this post. I saw the tag back in March and it's taken me 3 whole months to publish this. Oops!

1. Do you have a certain place at home to read?
Mostly, I read on the bus to and from work so I don't generally read at home. But when I do, I'll read in my bed or in the bath. I wake up ridiculously early in the mornings so I'll either read or watch something on Netflix.

2. Bookmark or random piece of paper?
I would say a bit of both. At the moment, my bookmark is a random piece of paper about an adventure park in Gran Canaria, where my boyfriend and I went on holiday in October. I used it as a bookmark by the pool when I was sunbathing, and it's been my bookmark ever since!

3. Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter or number of pages?
I need to stop at a chapter! Even if I'm completely bored of the book, I'll force myself to finish the chapter before I can do something else, even if this means I'll read it on the toilet or as I'm getting ready for work. I'm a little strict with myself about that!

4. Do you eat or drink while reading?
Sometimes if I'm reading on my lunch break I'll attempt to hold the book in one hand and a sandwich in the other but it never quite works. Drinking = yes. Eating = no.

5. Do you watch TV or listen to music while reading?
I can't have anything on in the background whilst I read. It completely distracts me. My brain can only concentrate on one thing at a time.

6. One book at a time or several at once?
I can't read several books at once because I'd get confused with the characters and the storylines. You wouldn't think I studied English at university. I'm definitely a one at a time kind of gal!

7. Reading at home or everywhere?
I've answered this already but everywhere: in bed, on the toilet, in the bath, on the bus and on my lunch breaks. I love reading when I'm in that frame of mind so I'll always find a place.

8. Reading aloud or silently in your head?
I'm guilty of reading aloud when no one is in the house. I even pace around and read aloud, well I did a few years ago, I don't anymore. Sometimes I found reading aloud would help the words go in better. But now, I read in my head more than anything.

9. Do you ever read ahead or skip pages?
I never skip ahead! When I was younger, I would want to get to the end of a book to find out what happens so I would skip pages and pages. I even did this with Harry Potter *covers face in embarrassment* but don't worry I've read all the books a number of times without skipping. I would never skip now. My brain can sometimes zone out if I'm bored but no skipping!

10. Do you ever write in books?
I did when I was at university and I made little notes here and there. But there's no point for me to write in books now. If I like a certain line or a quote I'll write it down in my notebook.

Everyone is open to do this, let me know if you do!

  1. This is a really cool tag. For #9, skipping ahead, I can never just completely skip over pages, but if the storyline gets boring I'll scan the page quickly to see if anything major happens.

My mom is terrible though, she reads books backwards. She'll read the last few chapters of a book first, and then read from the beginning. It baffles me, I couldn't lol.

  2. This is a great tag. I love reading, but never seem to find the time because I'm doing various other things. I should stop doing the various other things and read it instead. Like watching a tv program, etc. I've been read The Maze Runner for about 3 months now. It's not stopped me buying books though x
