NETFLIX PICKS

Wednesday 2 March 2016

I have a week off work this week - it's very well deserved, I haven't had an entire week off since August. I've spent a lot of it watching Netflix because I've just been sitting on the sofa, doing some colouring and giving my body a bit of a rest. There's a large list of TV shows I watch now, and ones I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for a new series to watch.

There's a bit of a theme here with the central character being a female. This is possibly why Netflix is always recommending films/series with a strong female lead. Not that I'm complaining. I love watching films or series with strong females (Scandal is one of my favourite shows, not on Netflix).

Love
I've binge watched Love this week. It's an American comedy created by Judd Apatow, centred on Mickey and Gus; two unlikely friends who are unlucky in love. Gillian Jacobs plays Mickey and I think I've fallen a little bit in love with her. It's a light hearted, down to earth comedy that you'll cringe at one minute and laugh at the next.

Pretty Little Liars
This is a guilty pleasure and I'm not even sorry. I watched all 5 seasons last year and got a little bit addicted. It follows four friends, Spencer, Aria, Hanna and Emily, after their best friend Alison has been murdered. They start receiving messages and being tormented by the mysterious A. 6 seasons in and it's just as silly as you might expect. But that's kinda the beauty of it. You'll want all their outfits. And their hair (how is Hanna's hair that perfect?!)

Making a Murderer
Something a little more serious now - Making a Murderer is a ten part documentary about Steven Avery, a man who served 18 years in prison for the rape and attempted murder of a woman. He was exonerated and 2 years later he was imprisoned for the murder of another woman. It explores the set up of his first imprisonment and whether his latest conviction is another set up. It's gripping and it will shock you how bad the American judicial system can be.

How to Get Away with Murder
Viola Davis is stunning in this series as a law professor, who becomes entwined in a murder plot with some of her students. I'm only halfway through the first season so I don't want to spoil too much. The episodes contain flashbacks of how the students got to this point where they are trying to cover up a murder.

Once Upon a Time
Another guilty pleasure but this is just a bit of light-hearted viewing for when I'm in the bath, blogging or just getting ready for the day. The show takes place in Storybrooke, where the residents are all characters from fairytales. They were transported to the real world following a curse and they can't remember who they really are. You see flashbacks to their real selves whilst they try and lead normal lives in the real world. It's not the greatest show in the world but it is my guilty pleasure. I love anything to do with fairytales and it's interesting to see how the show manages to link them all in, drawing links between fairytale characters you wouldn't expect.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt
Words can't describe how much I love this show. It's a comedy series created by Tina Fey. Kimmy moves to New York to restart her life after she's rescued from a doomsday cult, where she was held by Reverend Richard Wayne Gary Wayne for 15 years. She moves in with Titus (he is the best thing about this show) and he helps her adapt to the world outside the cult. All I want to say is: hashbrown amazing.

Orange is the New Black
This was probably the first series I watched on Netflix. It's another comedy series about a woman's prison. Each episode centres on one of the inmates and their life before prison, and how they ended up behind bars. You'll grow to love and hate the characters, becoming invested in their stories. It did dip a bit in the third series but I'm hoping the fourth will be much better. I cried buckets at the finale of the second season. 100% recommend if you fancy seeing what Netflix is all about, as this is their most watched series.

There's probably loads more shows I could talk about. I want to start watching Breaking Bad, Suits, Narcos, House of Cards and Orphan Black. I should probably finish some of these first before I start anything new.

What do you enjoy watching on Netflix? Let me know in the comments and tell me about any films/series you think I should be watching.

  4. So there you have it, the top three pros and cons of using Netflix. Now, I don't know how many times my argument has actually persuaded someone to give up on video stores and jump on the Netflix bandwagon but I will tell you this. https://putlocker.vg/tvshow/watch-the-promised-neverland-online-83097

  5. One thing I truly like about Netflix is that it requests that you rate films you've seen and presents custom suggestions dependent on your answers. Indeed, the entire recommendation framework functions admirably. I likewise like how well films and TV shows are ordered. movies and tv shows
